Speech to Text — audio & video / MP4 to text in the tab

Anonymous mode and voice notes are free.

Audio to text without leaving the tab.

Anonymous mode and voice notes need no account and stay free. File, link, and tab recording include a 1 hour cloud trial; after that, cloud transcription needs a paid Pro plan.

Transcribe video files to text

Turn an MP4 or other video file into a searchable transcript with speaker labels and timestamps. Upload in the web app, or drop the file in the Chrome extension. Need a live call instead of a recording? Record tab audio from Zoom or Google Meet with the extension and run the same cloud transcription step.

.mp4 · .mov · .webm

Video to text from a file

Upload the video you already have — screen recordings, exports from an editor, or clips from your phone. The audio track is transcribed; download Text, SRT, or JSON when the job finishes.

mp4 to text

MP4 to text in the browser

No desktop app required. Sign in once in the web app, upload your file, and close the tab — cloud jobs keep running and a notification opens History when the transcript is ready.

mic + tab audio

Meetings without exporting video

In the extension, use Record and share the Zoom or Google Meet tab with tab audio enabled. Paste a direct HTTPS link to an audio file when you have one — video URLs are not supported.

Upload video in the web app

File upload uses your cloud trial, then Pro · same speakers, timestamps, and exports as audio

Same audio. Fewer steps.

Without the extension

  • Export the recording from Zoom, Meet, or your phone
  • Open a transcription site in another tab
  • Upload, wait, and keep that tab alive
  • Copy the text back into the doc you were writing
  • Open a second tool if you also need an SRT

With Speech to Text

  • Click the toolbar icon or open the side panel
  • Record mic + tab audio, or drop the file you already have
  • Close it. Cloud jobs keep running
  • A notification opens History when the transcript is ready
  • Download Text, SRT, or JSON with speakers and timestamps

What you can do on the first run

whisper-tiny · 65 MB

A transcript with no upload

Anonymous mode runs Tiny, Base, or Small on your machine. No account. Audio is not sent to a server. Speaker labels and timestamps are stored with the result.

mic + tab audio

The meeting, from the tab that is playing it

Record captures the microphone and, if you enable it in Chrome’s share picker, the Zoom, Meet, or YouTube tab. Then the same transcription step as a file.

1 hour trial · 1 GB on Pro

Long audio you don’t have to watch

Upload a file or paste an HTTPS link. The cloud trial is 1 hour total, not a monthly refill. You can close the popup. A notification fires when the job finishes.

TXT · SRT · JSON

Text, captions, or JSON from the same result

Turn speaker labels and timestamps on or off, then download. Cloud audio itself is downloadable for 3 days, then deleted.

  • Manifest V3

Service worker, no content script on every page.

  • Anonymous stays local

That mode does not upload the audio.

  • Cloud audio expires

Free is Anonymous mode and voice notes.

File upload, links, and tab recording start with a 1 hour cloud trial. When the trial ends, you need an active Pro subscription to keep using those cloud modes. Upgrade in the extension or web app.

Which permissions does it request, and why?

storage and unlimitedStorage keep settings, local transcripts, and downloaded Whisper models. identity is Google sign-in for the cloud quota — Anonymous mode does not need it. sidePanel opens the panel next to the page. windows opens Anonymous mode in its own window. alarms checks cloud jobs. notifications is optional and only fires when a transcript is ready. Host access is limited to the transcription API, file storage, Hugging Face (model download), and Google sign-in. It does not request browsing history, and it does not inject a script into every site.

Does it work in Arc, Brave, and Edge?

Yes. It is a Manifest V3 extension for Chromium: Chrome, Arc, Brave, and Edge. Live notes need the browser speech API. Local models need WebAssembly. Sign-in uses chrome.identity, which these browsers provide. Install it from the Chrome Web Store.

Does it slow the browser down?

Idle, no. There is no content script on ordinary pages, and the service worker sleeps. Local transcription uses CPU — and GPU only if you enable WebGPU — while that window is running. Cloud transcription runs on the server, so you can close the popup.

How do I export or delete my data?

In History, download Text, SRT, or JSON, or copy the transcript. In Anonymous mode, Local history has Delete and Clear — that data never left the browser. Cloud audio files are removed after 3 days. Uninstalling the extension clears its local storage. There is no in-app “delete my account” button: export first, then use Settings → Support to ask for the cloud account to be deleted.

Install it. Open the icon. Try Anonymous or a voice note.

Anonymous and voice notes stay free. File, link, and tab recording get a 1 hour cloud trial, then require Pro.
